A team from Information Services and a member of staff from Informatics were named as the 2016 Principal's Medals winners. Amy Woodgate, Andy Pryde, Lucy Kendra, Nicol Craig, Imogen Scott, Tim Askew, Kara Johnston, Nuria Fraile Amy Woodgate, Project Manager - Distance Education Initiative & Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs), and the MOOCs Team receive the Exceptional Service medal, while Colin Adams, Director of Commercialisation, receives the Service to the Community award. Now in their ninth year, the Principal's Medals celebrate the achievements and dedication of the University's community members. Recipients are nominated by colleagues or fellow students. Both 2016 winners will be presented with their medals during the November graduation ceremonies. Exceptional service The Principal's Medal for Exceptional Service recognises a staff member, or team, who makes a contribution to the University that far exceeds what is expected of their role. Ms Woodgate and the MOOCs Team receive the award in recognition of their major contribution in establishing the University’s internationally leading reputation for delivering MOOCs, doing this with great agility in building excellent relationships internally with the academics delivering MOOC content, and externally with MOOC providers and the professional digital education community. Colin Adams Service to the Community The Principal's Medal for Service to the Community honours a staff member or student who plays a key role in a project or service that has been of benefit to the wider community. Dr Adams receives the award in recognition of his work in leading the commercialisation activities within and beyond the School of Informatics, embedding the School in relationships with government, companies and investors which have made the city of Edinburgh the prime location for technology start-ups outside London.
